In September 2011, Clarke Energy took on two Apprentices in the Newcastle area, as part of a wider apprentice programme. In this news article, we catch up with one of the Apprentices, Lewis Stone, as he tells us about his first 18 months with the business:
An Apprenticeship with Clarke Energy is a fantastic opportunity to learn and earn at the same time whilst being looked after by a great company. Clarke Energy is a successful growing business which makes it an ideal place to start a career. I decided to go down the apprenticeship route as it allows me to earn a real wage whilst gaining priceless experience in the work environment AND still learning as much as I would at college, if not more. The first year was full time at college, 8:30 till 5:00. It was a busy year learning the basics which would prove vital in the following year. I gained experience and skills in welding, soldering, basic electronic testing plus fault finding. I also picked up the skills required to think with an engineering mind set.
I am now in my second year which is 4 days on site with the engineers, carrying out maintenance and repairs and 1 day at college. It is a steep learning curve but I find the job very rewarding. The more effort you put in the more you get out of it and you really feel part of a team. I couldn’t ask for a better apprenticeship.
