Over the summer months, Clarke Energy advertised for the position of Apprentice, Field Service Engineer in Derby and in Kingston, London. Clarke Energy offer a 4 year apprenticeship, where the successful candidate will learn to be a Field Service Engineer for the operation and maintenance of gas fuelled engine and generator sets. Their time is split between college and work based learning, obtaining a BTECH National Certificate in Operations and Maintenance Engineering and an NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering in Fitting and Assembly.
After receiving over 40 applications for each role, the Company arranged two assessment centres which would put candidates through a number of tasks. The picture shows the final task, which was to build a roller coaster out of straws, paper, sellotape and paper clips in order to carry a one pence piece. The structure had to stand unaided and there had to be a final incline before the penny descended on the table. Do you think this one worked?
Both assessment days were very successful, and the Company made an offers of employment to Matthew Fitzsimons and to Jamie Constable. Both have since started their college course and are looking forward to the challenges ahead.
